Drone coalition for Ukraine has provided drone support in the amount of 1.8 billion euro this year
According to Ministry of Defence, international drone coalition for Ukraine has supported Ukraine’s unmanned aerial vehicle capabilities in the amount of 1.8 billion in 2024.
Funding was spent on procuring drones for Ukraine, investing in Ukraine’s manufacturing capacities, as well as upscaling of coalition’s International Fund, a joint facility created to procure drones for Ukraine.
“Member states of the drone coalition coordinated by Latvia and the United Kingdom have allocated around 1.8 billion euro to help Ukrainian Armed Forces fight the aggressor,” Andris Sprūds, Defence Minister of Latvia, states. “It has also made the international drone coalition into an important platform for the development of drone industry, thus also contributing to future defence of our country”.
As announced earlier, the first management group meeting of the international drone coalition for Ukraine took place in Riga on 31 October.
Apart from Latvia, coalition is comprised of the United Kingdom, Australia, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Estonia, Italy, new Zealand, Canada, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Poland, Ukraine, Germany and Sweden.
Drone coalition’s International Fund is a financial facility created to procure drones on regular basis by organising tenders. It also promotes technological innovations. Fund has currently reached the size of 83 million euro. Members of the coalition also provide other kinds of bilateral assistance to Ukraine.
Member states of the coalition aim to provide Ukraine with drones that it currently needs. Coalition will also provide technical support and personnel training. Coalition is committed to deliver Ukraine reconnaissance and combat drones that meet the requirements identified by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
This year Latvia intends to spend around 20 million euro on coalition’s activities. 10 million will be spent on procurements from local manufacturers, 5 million will go toward international procurements together with other members of the coalition. Latvia’s allocation to the international drone coalition will remain at 20 million euro for the 2025. Latvia and Ukraine have also agreed to implement the training of Ukrainian drone pilots in Latvia.
