Latvia, 15 NATO Member States and three partner countries agree to implement joint ammunition procurements

Today, on 12 July, during the NATO Summit, Defence Minister Raimonds Bergmanis signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Multinational Cooperation for the Provision of  Land Battle Decisive Munitions.

Memorandum of Understanding was also signed by Belgian, Danish, French, Estonian, Italian, Lithuanian, Macedonian, Montenegrian, Dutch, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Slovakian, Slovenian, Spanish and German defence ministers. After signing of Memorandum by Austrian and Finnish defence ministers, the number of countries cooperating on joint ammunition procurements will reach 16 NATO Member States and three partner countries.

Belgium is the leading partner of Memorandum of Understanding on Multinational Cooperation for the Provision of  Land Battle Decisive Munitions procurement scheme. Memorandum of Understanding provides the necessary legal framework for implementation of various joint land battle munition procurements and storage arrangements between partner countries. This initiative will deepen the military cooperation between the partner countries. It will also ensure the efficiency of such arrangements and will reduce the ammunition costs.

As reported earlier, Defence Minister Raimonds Bergmanis and Lt.Gen Leonīds Kalniņš, Chief of the Defence of the National Armed Forces, are currently in Brussels, Kingdom of Belgium, attending the NATO Summit, which takes place on 11-12 July.
