Latvia has offered Ukraine its support in further development and capacity-building of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry and armed forces.

The Latvian Defense Ministry said that the defense ministers of the two countries had had a telephone conversation on March 21, 2014.

Latvian Defense Minister Raimonds Vejonis suggested that, as part of bilateral cooperation, Latvia could send experts to Ukraine to identify the likely support that Latvia could provide to the Ukrainian Defense Ministry and armed forces for their further development and capacity-building.

"Latvia together with the rest of the international community strongly denounces the annexation of Crimea and Russia’s activities against Ukraine. At the moment it is vital for Ukraine to have international partners demonstrating solidarity and support,” Vejonis said.
