On Tuesday, 7 January, the Cabinet of Ministers reviewed the Defence Ministry’s report on Latvia's support to Ukraine. Last year, Latvia provided military support to Ukraine amounting to more than 0.25% of gross domestic product (GDP), meeting the objectives of the inter-state security agreement.

"Ukraine's defenders have been fighting selflessly against the Russian invaders for almost three years. The military and humanitarian support of Latvia and allied countries to Ukraine must not be reduced, which is why we are determined to continue to support Ukraine until victory. We will continue to provide military support of at least 0.25% of GDP in the years to come," said Defence Minister Andris Sprūds.

The total military aid also includes aid of military significance to Ukraine from Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Ministry of the Interior and Ministry of Health.

The report provides detailed information on the level of support provided by Latvia to Ukraine in 2024, as well as proposals on the necessary actions to ensure that the level of military support to Ukraine remains at 0.25% of GDP in 2025 and 2026.

In order to fulfil the intergovernmental commitment, it is planned that in 2025 Latvia's military support to Ukraine will consist mainly of new procurements from Latvian industry, contributions to international drone and other coalitions, military training of Ukrainian soldiers and dual-use support to Ukraine from other ministries.

This type of action will strengthen Latvia's military industry and accelerate the speed of deliveries to the Ukrainian Armed Forces, giving the fastest possible effect in combat.
