On Thursday, 27 June, Major General Jette Albinus, Commander of the Multinational Division North, and Brigadier General Anders Berg Olesen, Commander 1 Danish Brigade, Royal Danish Army, signed Danish Statement of Affiliation to the Headquarters Multinational Division North (HQ MND-N). Signing took place at Ādaži Military Training Area.

By formally joining NATO HQ MND-N military exercise, Royal Danish Army 1 Danish Brigade is further expanding Latvia-Denmark cooperation within the framework of NATO.

It is also the first formal affiliation of Royal Danish Army’s 1 Danish Brigade, which is currently working on reaching its full combat capabilities in foreseeable future. During the training lead by NATO HQ MND-N, 1 Danish Brigade will enrich its knowledge, operational and field skills, as well as focusing on strategic communication and situational awareness skills.

Denmark has played an important role in the development of Latvian Armed Forces. It was one of the leading Scandinavian nations in terms of political support and practical assistance to Latvia.

As reported earlier, Headquarters Multinational Division North (HQ MND-N), created in 2019, is tasked with strengthening regional security of the Baltics and NATO’s collective deterrence and defence posture. It is an efficient and militarily capable command and control unit of NATO, which provides integrated command and control throughout the Baltic region.

After achieving full compliance with NATO standards for maintaining and disseminating operational awareness about regional security, HQ MND-N declared Full Operational Capability in summer of 2023.

Headquarters Multinational Division North is fully capable of planning and commanding military operations, assigned forces, organising and conducting military exercise and other activities, as well as executing tasks issued by national and allied military authorities, and thus contributes to enhanced interoperability between forces of participating countries and their ability to carry out collective defence operations according to Washington Treaty.
