New US troop rotation to arrive in Latvia this week

A new rotation of US troops with “Stryker” armored personnel carriers are to begin their rotation in Latviain this week.

170 soldiers from HHT 3rd Squadron 2nd Cavalry Regiment based in Vilseck, Germany have arrived in Latvia to train together with Latvian National Armed Forces and participate in bilateral and multinational military exercises.

This will be the third rotation of the 2nd Cavalry Regiment to operation “Atlantic Resolve”.  The troops will stay in Latvia till May.

The train with “Strykers” and military equipment  from Klaipēda, Lithuania on January 14 to Garkalne. More than 25 “Strykers” of different modifications, HMMWVs , trucks and other military equipment will be transported to Camp Adazi.

It will be the ninth rotation of US troops arriving in Latvia.

In line with the decisions of NATO's Wales Summit on strengthening the Alliance's collective defense, the US military presence will be maintained in the Baltic States for as long as the security situation requires.

Following the annexation of Crimea by Russia and Russia’s aggression in eastern Ukraine, the US launched Atlantic Resolve to demonstrate its continued commitment to the collective security of NATO and dedication to the enduring peace and stability in the Baltic states and Poland.
