On Friday, 31 March, Peter Hultqvist, Sweden’s Minister of Defence is coming to Latvia for official visit.

While visiting Latvia, Minister Hultqvist will meet with Raimonds Bergmanis, Minister of Defence of the Republic of Latvia, to discuss the regional security situation and bilateral defence cooperation between Latvia and Sweden.

Both ministers will take part in joint ceremonial laying of flowers at the Colonel Oskars Kalpaks Monument in Riga.

Minister Hultqvist will also meet with Jānis Sārts, Director of the NATO Strategic Communications Centre of Excellence.

Sweden and Latvia collaborate on various bilateral and multilateral cooperation projects such as Nordic-Baltic defence cooperation, a regional defence initiative designed, inter alia, to support Ukraine.

To promote interoperability of armed forces, soldiers of both countries are taking part in joint military training activities. In 2016, Swedish troops participated in military exercise "Detonators", a mine clearance operation at Cekule ammunition base aimed at removing all the explosives on site. Swedes also took part in the military exercise "Ramstein Alloy"  with two Gripen fighter jets.
