Ukrainian Armed Forces will receive drones manufactured in Latvia
Ministry of Defence has announced a 7 million euro tender for locally-produced drones to be shipped to Ukrainian Armed Forces.
“Latvian companies help us continue to support Ukraine until its victory and we are ready to procure the next batch of drones from them,” Defence Minister Andris Sprūds explains. “We will buy drones of various specification and capabilities from Latvian manufacturers based on specific needs identified by the Ukrainian side. Drones will also go through testing in Ukraine. It is estimated that the next batch of drones will reach Ukraine by the end of this year.”
This is the last drone tender of the 2024 announced by Latvia. The previous two batches of drones based on Ukrainian needs reached 3 000 drones of various class and capacity. The total sum of these procurements is around 6 million euro.
Latvia has also paid 5 million euro into the International Fund of the drone coalition. This contribution will go towards other drone procurements.
Procurement will be divided in batches to allow local companies gradually ramp up their production to required levels and meet the changing demands of the Ukrainian side.
Next year Latvia will allocate 20 million euro for the international drone coalition.
